Giving Back with our 12 Days of Giving

This holiday season, Medical Eye Center gave back to our community with our first 12 Days of Giving social media campaign.  For 12 days, we gave away a variety of prizes, including free Botox, free sunglasses and eyeglasses, and half off LASIK to local contest registrants.  Our doctors and staff had a wonderful time filming prize announcement videos on Facebook and it was great to interact with our patients and local residents online.

In addition to giving away prizes, we also shared our holiday spirit by donating to charitable organizations.  On December 14, we donated $1,000 to Himalayan Cataract Project: Cure Blindness.  The Himalayan Cataract Project works to eradicate preventable and curable blindness in the developing world with a steadfast commitment to training local providers and working with partners to leverage impact.  Cataract surgery is one of the most cost effective of all health interventions.  Our donation helped to cover the material costs of 40 sight restoring surgeries.  If you’re interested in learning more about this organization or donating yourself, please visit http://www.cureblindness.org/.

On December 18, we visited Dogs for Better Lives in Central Point, OR, and also donated $1,000.  Formerly Dogs for the Deaf. Dogs for Better Lives is a national award-winning 501(c)3 nonprofit organization rescuing and professionally training Assistance Dogs since 1977.

“On a daily basis, we see patients in our clinic who have visual impairments, and we understand how that impacts their lives. For our ‘12 Days of Giving,’ we wanted to donate to a local organization who provides assistance to those who also need help with their daily activities and Dogs for Better Lives was the perfect choice,” explained Clinical Director, Patty Casebolt.

Our donation will help build Dogs for Better Lives’ canine exam room in their new training facility.  To learn more about Dogs for Better Lives, visit https://www.dogsforbetterlives.org/
